The Origin Of Old Orchard Home
Hi, my name is Jessica but y’all can call me Jessi. Old Orchard Home comes from the name of the neighborhood I grew up in most of my childhood.
This is the house I learned a lot of my skills and discovered a lot of my talents in. The community, much like Gilmore Girls small town lol sits in a tiny country town left in the rush of South Florida large cities. This town along with my travels, particularly Romania, where my family is originally from and visited often were responsible for fueling a lot of my creativity, skills, education and inspiration. Old Orchard Home is a product of all of it, where I learned traditional skills and old trade where Im hoping to continue educating on to continue for generations ahead.
Who Is Jessi?
My life is a bit like the cliche Hallmark movie lol well some aspects…. Grew up in a small country town down the street from the rodeo amongst big modern cities. The city of Davie, Fl is a small old country town west of Fort Lauderdale around farms and horse ranches. I remember going on walks on the ridge just casually passing by people riding their horses and the smell of cow manure from the pastures as I drove around running errands. I was that kid that played music, baked from scratch, learned decorating from my mom and was Christmas obsessed enriched with traditions.
Fast forward to any typical Hallmark movie where “she wanted to move to the city.” I had the cliche dream of just moving to a big city so I did. I randomly packed my bags and in two weeks I was off to live in Chicago, a dream city of mine where I was ready for it…. an event/wedding planner lol, yup! I planned events for a big corporate company, dated the guy who strung me along and didn’t want to solidify anything to only visit home one Christmas and decided I wanted to move back.
Do I think I did? I did… Got my heart broken in the city, felt like that last year was falling apart and didn’t know where I wanted to go. The only thing I did know was I wanted to immerse myself back into a quiet countryside life, baking, help others decorate their events and homes, settle down and have a family. So I moved back, found myself a country loving, hockey playing blue collar man and together we give tutorials on DIY home while I help people like you put together gatherings, become educated on a holistic living life and learning skills from our roots.
I’m happy you’re on this ole’ wild ride with me and I only hope to bring cheer into your home whether that be in a project, the kitchen or a holiday gathering.
